Joined by soprano Sam Cobb, the group performs a work from Ravel's 'Trois Chansons'

Today's Video of the Day comes from the Echo Vocal Ensemble with their performance of Trois Beaux Oiseaux, taken from Maurice Ravel’s Trois Chansons, written in 1914 in response to the First World War. They are his only composition for a capella choir.

Sam Cobb sings the soprano solo, which tells of a protagonist who loses her lover at war. Three beautiful birds fly to tell her the news; each being a different colour of the French flag. Ravel wrote the text and music as he was in Paris waiting to be drafted for the war.

This is the first single released from Echo’s debut album, Innocence. Directed by Sarah Latto, the group will launch the album at the Wigmore Hall on 3 July.
