Having blogged here a couple of days ago about musicians being grounded thanks to the volcano in Iceland, or rather the ash pouring forth from its bowels, the skies are once again roaring with the sound of jet engines. Which means that musicians are scrambling to get to wherever they were supposed to be.

One such is the fabulous pianist Paul Lewis whose plane to New York, irony of ironies, was routed via - Reykjavik! Lewis, who is scheduled to play at the Middlebury College Center for the Arts tonight and the Metropolitan Museum tomorrow, was rather astonished when he looked out of the cabin window to see the cause of all the trouble.

There, belching out smoke and ash in a steady stream ascending well above the clouds, was the Eyjafjallajökull volcano. He took a photograph, pinged it off to his amused manager Thomas Hull, who showed it to me yesterday evening and, well, here it is (the site of the volcano is ringed)...
