Simon Rattle's Rachmaninov, Pergolesi from Ensemble Resonanz, Peter Jablonski plays Stanchinsky, Anna Lucia Richter sings Monteverdi and Lise Davidsen sings Wagner
Four large-scale works this week: Rachmaninov's Second Symphony in a fine performance by Rattle and the LSO, Pergolesi's sublime Stabat mater directed by Riccardo Minasi, the latest incarnation of the Juilliard Quartet in Dvořák's best-loved string quartet, and Gramophone's current cover star, Lise Davidsen singing Wagner's Wesendonck Lieder.
Recent Gramophone Podcast guests, Peter Jablonski plays piano music by the little-known Alexei Stanchinsky and Anna Lucia Richter sings Monteverdi.
A discovery for me is the music of Jacob Mühlrad, a young Swedish composer who explores and celebrates his Jewish heritage in a powerful album performed by the Swedish Radio Choir. Plus pre-release tracks by a handful of big musical personalities to whet the appetite. James Jolly
