Handel Apollo e Dafne
La Risonanza Glossa GCD921527
Glossa’s “Handel’s Italian Cantatas” project concludes in a blaze of glory with this seventh volume. Gramophone’s critic David Vickers has followed the series with enthusiasm, noting that it “has reconfirmed the genius of a composer who was only in his early twenties when he arrived in Rome in 1706, and whom harpsichordist Fabio Bonizzoni half-jokes was surely as much half-Italian as he was German-born and a naturalised British citizen”. Among the glories of the series have been the playing of Bonizzoni’s ensemble La Risonanza and the magnificent singing of one of the series’ regulars, mezzo Roberta Invernizzi, who here rises to new levels of intensity as both Dafne and Agrippina.
