Young Artist

The Argentinian cellist Sol Gabetta, now 29, first gained major international attention in 2004, when, as winner of Credit Suisse Young Artist Award she performed at the Lucerne Festival with Vienna Philharmonic under Valery Gergiev. Her first album for RCA (Tchaikovsky, Saint-Saëns and Ginastera) appeared in 2006 and went straight to the top of the classical charts in Germany. Since then, five more albums have followed, embracing a wide range of repertoire from Haydn and Mozart to a coupling of Elgar (her interpretation of the Cello Concerto was hailed by Rob Cowan as “one of the best around”) and a new work by Pēteris Vasks. Gabetta’s next album brings Baroque music played on gut strings.
