James Newby's new album, 'Fallen to Dust', for BIS explores English song, and particularly English on the theme of death. Joined by the pianist Joseph Middleton, he offers cycles by Sir Arthur Somerville and Gerald Finzi as well as songs spanning a century, including contemporary settings by Jonathan Dove and Errolyn Wallen. A former BBC New Generation Artist, a recipient of a 2022 Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award, a Rising Star for the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment and an ECHO Rising Star, Newby's career has taken off impressively. James Jolly met up with him earlier this week to talk about the new album.

Monday, May 1, at 1pm, and live streamed: The pianist Tom Borrow plays Bach’s Italian Concerto, César Franck’s Prélude, choral et fugue and Rachmaninov’s Corelli Variations. 

Monday, May 1, at 7.30pm: The pianist Paul Lewis plays three Schubert sonatas.

Tuesday, May 2, at 7.30pm: The tenor Mark Padmore is joined by by the Elias Quartet and pianist Pavel Kolesnikov for a programme of Haydn’s String Quartet in G, Op 33 No 5, Fauré’s La bonne chanson and Vaughan William’s three Walt Whitman songs and his On Wenlock Edge.

Wednesday, May 3, at 7.30pm: The pianist Boris Giltburg is joined by two members of the Pavel Haas Quartet, violinist Veronika Jarušová and cellist Peter Jarušek for Dvořák’s piano trios in F minor and E minor, Dumky.

Thursday, May 4, at 7.30pm: The Silesian Quartet play three Polish quartets – by Stanisław Moniuszko, Mieczysław Weinberg, Henryk Górecki.

Friday, May 5, at 11am and 12.30: Chamber Tots, concerts for young children.

Friday, May 5, at 7.30pm: The Wigmore Soloists play music by French composers including Fauré, Debussy, Ravel as well as Alphonse Hasselmans and Guillaume Connesson whose Techno Parade is featured.

Priority booking for concerts between September and December 2023 will open next week, on Wednesday, April 19. General sale of tickets for same period will open on Thursday, May 4 and tickets for under 35s concerts will go on sale on Thursday, May 11.
