Anna Lapwood, organist, Director of Music at Pembroke College, Cambridge, and one of the most welcoming and active ambassadors of classical music's younger generation, has today been signed by Sony Classical.

The partnership will begin in April with a five-track EP of film transcriptions recorded on the organ of the Royal Albert Hall, where Lapwood is Associate Artist, and the first single from it will be released next Friday, February 10. Lapwood wrote the transcriptions at the console of the RAH organ during the night, drawing on what she describe as the instrument’s own ‘slightly strange and beautiful wonderful colours it has to offer’.

Aside from releasing well-received albums on Signum, both as soloist and conducting her Pembroke singers, Lapwood has used social media, notably TikTok, to reach new – and vast - audiences for the organ.

As she told Gramophone in a profile interview published earlier this year: ‘I posted a video of me playing Saint-Saëns which got five million views, and that led to 90,000 people all just engaged with the organ, and asking questions like, “How do the pedals work?” “How do the stops work?”’

A video of her playing the organ during a performance in the RAH by electronic dance music act Bonobo also went viral on social media.

Lapwood can also be heard in a series of recitals throughout the coming months – mainly in the UK, though also in California. See her website for details.
